Common Problems with Air Conditioners

1. Air conditioner won’t turn on
If your system uses a remote, firstly check the remote batteries! Sounds obvious but sometimes the obvious things can be overlooked.  Next, check if the condenser is running and ensure the thermostat is set correctly – refer to your user manual.

Another thing to check is the fuse. Go to your switch box and check if the safety switch has turned off power to your air conditioner. It should be labelled and be easy to identify. Ensure the switch is turned on and try starting your air conditioner again. If the safety switch trips again, it could be a blown fuse.

If none of these things fix the system, it could be a mechanical or electrical problem with the unit and you should consult a professional to repair the system. Most brands have at least a 3-5 year factory warranty.

2. Air conditioner is not cooling or heating
Over time you can get debris, long grass or weeds blocking the air condenser. Check the condenser outside, and clear away anything that could be block air circulation. You should also check your air filter – if it is blocked with dirt and dust, this can restrict air flow and prevent the system from working. We recommend that your filters are cleaned around 4 times per year.

If these simple checks don’t solve your problem, you should consult a professional.

3. Air conditioner not performing properly
If the system is turned on, looks to be working and the thermostat is set correctly but the temperature in your room or house doesn’t feel right, this could be due to having a system that is under-powered, or too small, for the size of the area.
